An elderly farmer lived in a rural village with his four sons. The sons were strong and hardworking, but they lacked mutual harmony. They were incessantly bickering and fighting over petty issues.
বাংলা অনুবাদ: এক গ্রামে এক বৃদ্ধ কৃষক তার চার ছেলের সাথে বাস করত। ছেলেরা শক্তিশালী ও পরিশ্রমী ছিল, কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে কোনো সম্প্রীতি ছিল না। তুচ্ছ বিষয় নিয়ে তারা সবসময় ঝগড়া-বিবাদে লিপ্ত থাকত।
The aging father was deeply perturbed by their endless discord. He knew that as long as they remained divided, mischievous neighbors and cunning adversaries would easily exploit and destroy them.
বাংলা অনুবাদ: তাদের এই অবিরাম কলহ বৃদ্ধ পিতাকে প্রতিনিয়ত উদ্বিগ্ন করে রাখত। তিনি জানতেন, তারা যতদিন এভাবে বিভক্ত থাকবে, কুচক্রী প্রতিবেশী ও শত্রুরা সহজেই তাদের শোষণ ও ধ্বংস করে ফেলবে।
On his deathbed, the old father devised a practical demonstration to teach them a life-defining lesson. He called all four sons to his room and asked a servant to bring a tight bundle of wooden sticks tied with a strong cord.

Handing the bundle to the eldest son, the father said, 'Try to break this bundle with all your strength.' The eldest tried vigorously, but could not even bend it. One by one, the other three sons tried their utmost, but all failed completely.
বাংলা অনুবাদ: বড় ছেলের হাতে লাঠির আঁটিটি দিয়ে পিতা বললেন, 'তোমার সমস্ত শক্তি দিয়ে এই আঁটিটি ভাঙার চেষ্টা করো।' বড় ছেলে প্রাণপণ চেষ্টা করল, কিন্তু আঁটিটি সামান্য বাঁকাও করতে পারল না। একে একে অন্য তিন ভাইও চেষ্টা করল, কিন্তু সবাই ব্যর্থ হলো।
Then the father instructed, 'Untie the bundle and give each brother a single stick.' Now he commanded them to snap the solitary sticks. Within seconds, each son broke his stick in two with negligible effort.

The wise father looked into their eyes and said solemnly, 'Remember my children, you are like these sticks. If you remain firmly united, no enemy in the world can harm you. But if you quarrel and stand divided, you will be broken as easily as those solitary twigs.' The sons realized their folly and vowed never to fight again.
