Once upon a time, two intimate young men named Rashed and Sohel lived in a rural village. They promised each other that they would stand by each other through joy and sorrow, and never desert one another in moments of danger. One sunny morning, both friends had to travel through a dense and solitary forest on their way to a distant township.
As they were walking through the shadowy trees, a ferocious wild black bear suddenly lumbered out from behind the thickets, growling menacingly. Terrified for his own life, Sohel immediately forgot his sacred vows of friendship, scrambled up a tall nearby tree, and safely concealed himself amid the leafy branches.
Rashed, who did not know how to climb trees, found himself trapped. Remembering having heard that bears never touch dead creatures, he instantly threw himself flat on the ground, closed his eyes, held his breath, and feigned death. The huge beast approached, sniffed around his ears, face, and chest, believed him to be a lifeless corpse, and slowly walked away into the dark jungle.
When the coast was clear, Sohel slid down the tree and playfully asked, "Friend, what did the bear whisper into your ears?" Rashed looked into his eyes with cold disdain and replied, "The bear advised me never to trust a selfish friend who deserts his companion at the first sign of peril."

একদা রাশেদ ও সোহেল নামে দুই ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধু একটি গ্রামে বাস করত। তারা একে অপরকে কথা দিয়েছিল যে, সুখে-দুঃখে তারা সবসময় একে অপরের পাশে থাকবে এবং বিপদের সময় কখনোই একে অপরকে ছেড়ে যাবে না। এক রৌদ্রোজ্জ্বল সকালে, কোনো এক দূরবর্তী শহরে যাওয়ার পথে তাদের দুজনকে একটি ঘন ও নির্জন বনের মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে হলো।
