Environmental pollution is the contamination of the physical and biological components of the Earth's environment to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected. In modern times, rapid industrialization, unplanned urban growth, and careless human behavior have brought environmental pollution to an alarming level in Bangladesh. Environmental pollution mainly takes four forms: air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, and sound pollution. Air pollution is caused by toxic black smoke from brick kilns, motor vehicles, and industrial factories, causing severe respiratory problems and asthma. Water pollution occurs when chemical effluents from dyeing and leather factories, untreated sewage, and plastic waste are dumped into rivers like the Buriganga and Karnaphuli, poisoning aquatic life and making river water undrinkable. Soil pollution is caused by excessive agricultural chemical fertilizers, toxic pesticides, and non-biodegradable polythene bags. Sound pollution from loud hydraulic vehicle horns, industrial machinery, and loudspeakers causes permanent hearing loss, high blood pressure, and mental stress. To prevent pollution, we must switch to clean green energy, install effluent treatment plants (ETP) in all factories, ban plastic bags strictly, and plant trees on a massive scale.

পরিবেশ দূষণ হলো প্রকৃতি ও পরিবেশের বিভিন্ন উপাদান—যেমন বাতাস, পানি, মাটি ও শব্দকে এমনভাবে বিষাক্ত করা যা মানুষ এবং অন্যান্য জীবের স্বাভাবিক জীবনযাত্রাকে বিপন্ন করে তোলে। দ্রুত নগরায়ণ, অপরিকল্পিত কলকারখানা এবং অসচেতনতার কারণে বাংলাদেশে পরিবেশ দূষণ এখন এক ভয়াবহ রূপ ধারণ করেছে। পরিবেশ দূষণ প্রধানত চার প্রকার: বায়ু দূষণ, পানি দূষণ, মাটি দূষণ এবং শব্দ দূষণ। যানবাহন ও ইটভাটার কালো ধোঁয়ায় বাতাস দূষিত হয়ে ফুসফুসের রোগ ও হাঁপানি সৃষ্টি করছে। কলকারখানার অপরিশোধিত বিষাক্ত বর্জ্য ও প্লাস্টিক নদী-নালায় ফেলে বুড়িগঙ্গার মতো নদীর পানি বিষাক্ত করা হচ্ছে। জমিতে অতিরিক্ত কীটনাশক ও পলিথিন ব্যবহারের ফলে মাটি তার উর্বরতা হারাচ্ছে। এছাড়া গাড়ির বিকট হাইড্রোলিক হর্ন ও মাইকের শব্দে মানুষের শ্রবণশক্তি নষ্ট হচ্ছে এবং রক্তচাপ বাড়ছে। পরিবেশ বাঁচাতে হলে বর্জ্য শোধনাগার (ETP) স্থাপন করতে হবে, পলিথিন বর্জন করতে হবে এবং ব্যাপক হারে গাছ লাগাতে হবে।
