Summary Writing: Universal Human Rights and Fundamental Human Dignity

Original Passage for Examination:

Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death. They apply regardless of where you are from, what you believe, or how you choose to live your life. These rights are based on shared values like dignity, fairness, equality, respect, and independence. These values are defined and protected by law. In 1948, following the horrific devastation of World War II, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The declaration establishes thirty fundamental rights, including the right to life, freedom of expression, the right to education, protection against torture, and equality before the law. Respect for human rights is essential for sustaining social peace, economic progress, and political stability across nations. When states suppress basic rights, violence, alienation, and social collapse inevitably ensue.

Standard Model Summary:

Human rights are inalienable, universal freedoms possessed by every human being, rooted in core values such as equality, dignity, fairness, and mutual respect. Following the catastrophic devastation of World War II, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 to protect core liberties, including free speech, education, and equality under law. Upholding these rights is fundamental to ensuring domestic peace, democracy, and sustainable global stability.

Exam Notes & Guidelines:
  • A good summary must be written in one-third (approx. 33%) of the original passage length.
  • Always write the summary in your own words using simple, grammatically correct sentences.
  • Do not include personal opinions, rhetorical questions, quotations, or external examples.
